OpenAI Testing $500 ChatGPT Pro Max Subscription Tier

OpenAI is reportedly developing a new high-end subscription tier for ChatGPT titled “Pro Max,” which is expected to cost approximately $500 per month. Depending on the user’s location, the price may reach $600 once local taxes or VAT are applied.

The unannounced plan has appeared in the platform’s subscription interface alongside existing Plus and Pro options. While an official rollout date has not been confirmed, the presence of the tier suggests a move to accommodate power users and developers requiring higher usage limits than existing plans provide.

Enhanced Features and Speed

The Pro Max tier appears to offer several premium capabilities. Observations of the subscription interface suggest the plan includes access to OpenAI’s most capable frontier models, maximum memory capacity, 100GB of file storage, and early access to new features.

A significant differentiator for the plan is the promise of “Fastest Work and Codex.” This focus on speed has led to technical speculation that OpenAI may be utilising Cerebras hardware to power ultra-fast AI inference for this specific tier. Cerebras has previously demonstrated high-performance AI capabilities, such as Codex-Spark running at over 1,000 tokens per second, though neither OpenAI nor Cerebras has confirmed a specific connection to the Pro Max tier.

Current Subscription Status

OpenAI has not yet provided specific details regarding usage limits for the Pro Max tier. The introduction of this tier follows a period of transition for the company’s existing paid services; sign-ups and upgrades for the current $200 ChatGPT Pro plan have been temporarily paused since 10 September.
