You Think You Can Spot a Scam? Try Privacy Needle’s Free Phishing Game

Thirty fictional emails. Three difficulty levels. Can you tell which messages deserve your trust?

An email says your bank account will be suspended in 30 minutes. The sender uses a bank’s name. There is a link to “verify” your details, and the clock is supposedly ticking.

Would you trust it?

That is one of the fictional situations waiting inside Spot the Phishing, Privacy Needle’s free online phishing awareness game. Players investigate messages, check the evidence and decide whether each email is a scam or legitimate.

The game is available on Privacy Needle Play and works in a modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is no registration or payment required to start.

Play Spot the Phishing and take your first challenge.

Here is the catch: some messages are legitimate

The game contains 30 scenarios: 15 phishing attempts and 15 legitimate messages. Calling everything a scam will not get you a perfect result.

A delivery notification might match an order you actually placed. A password-reset email might arrive because you requested one. An alarming subject line needs checking, but it does not settle the answer.

Each case gives you independently verified background information. Your job is to compare the message with those facts before making your decision.

You can inspect the complete sender address, preview a link’s destination and examine attachment details. These inspections happen inside the simulation; you do not have to open a suspicious website or download a file.

Then comes the verdict: Phishing or Legitimate?

Start easy. Then try the messages with fewer obvious clues

There are three difficulty levels, with ten cases in each:

  • Beginner: Everyday situations involving bank alerts, deliveries, account access and other familiar requests.
  • Intermediate: Workplace messages, payment discussions and requests that call for closer attention to business procedures.
  • Expert: More targeted approaches involving personal details, account permissions and sensitive access requests.

You can choose any level from the start. If you already consider yourself difficult to fool, Expert gives you a place to test that confidence.

After each decision, the game explains the answer and the evidence behind it. Scoring rewards correct classifications and supported warning signs. Selecting every possible warning sign can reduce your evidence bonus.

There are also eight achievements to unlock. With progress saving enabled, you can leave an unfinished mission and return using the same browser and device.

A supplier’s email. A creator account warning. An unexpected offer.

Some of the situations may feel familiar if you run a business, manage a social media page or receive account notifications throughout the day.

A message might ask you to change a supplier’s payment details. Another might threaten a creator account or offer an unexpected scholarship. The request gives you something to investigate: the destination, the information being demanded, or the instruction to skip a normal check.

You can make a mistake here, read the explanation and try the next case without exposing a real account.

For readers who want a starting point before playing, Privacy Needle Play also provides explained email examples and a guide to the game’s rules and scoring.

Put your confidence on the record

Complete a ten-case mission and check your accuracy. Then send the game link to a friend or colleague and see how you both perform on the same difficulty level.

The first challenge is simple: can you get all ten decisions right?

Open Spot the Phishing now and find out.
