Anthropic Tests Claude Money Feature for Financial Data Analysis
Share
Anthropic is testing a new personal finance capability for its Claude AI, which would allow users to link their bank accounts directly to the platform. The feature, identified as “Claude Money,” was recently observed within the Claude application for iOS.
The new section is designed to help users “understand [their] money” by allowing the AI to analyse spending habits, assist with financial planning, and answer questions regarding personal finances. While the feature has appeared in the mobile app, specific details regarding the rollout, the banking institutions that will be supported, and the connection protocols have not yet been confirmed by Anthropic.
Competition with OpenAI
The development mirrors a similar offering from OpenAI, which provides a “Finances” feature within ChatGPT. OpenAI’s version allows users to connect bank accounts, credit cards, and brokerages via the financial service Plaid. OpenAI has previously stated that it does not use personal financial data to train its artificial intelligence models.
Privacy and Regulatory Implications
The integration of highly sensitive financial data into large language models (LLMs) introduces significant privacy considerations. Because the feature involves the processing of detailed personal financial records, it may face regulatory challenges in regions with stringent data protection laws, such as the European Union.
The exact scope of the rollout and the specific security measures used to protect connected accounts remain unconfirmed as the feature undergoes testing.
