U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked fresh speculation after suggesting that billionaire Elon Musk could donate shares of SpaceX to the government’s new Trump Accounts savings program, despite the pair’s highly publicized political disagreements.
During a recent interview, Trump said he believes Musk will eventually contribute SpaceX stock to the initiative, although he acknowledged that the two have not recently discussed the matter directly. So far, neither Musk nor SpaceX has confirmed any plans to make such a donation.
What Are Trump Accounts?
The Trump Accounts program is a federal savings initiative created to help build long-term wealth for American children. Under the program, every eligible child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, receives a $1,000 government-funded investment account, with private companies and philanthropists encouraged to make additional contributions.
Several major corporations and business leaders have already pledged support, including Michael Dell, who committed billions of dollars, along with companies such as Intel, BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, Uber, and Micron.
Why SpaceX Stock Would Be Different
Unlike cash donations, a contribution of SpaceX shares would attract enormous attention due to the company’s soaring valuation following its historic public market debut.
A donation involving SpaceX stock could become one of the most valuable corporate contributions to the program, but questions remain over how such a gift would be structured, valued, and distributed among eligible beneficiaries. No formal agreement has been announced.
A Sign of Improving Relations?
Trump’s comments also suggest that relations between him and Musk may be improving after months of political tensions.
The two were once close allies, with Musk playing a prominent role in Trump’s political orbit before disagreements over administration policies led to a public falling-out. Trump now describes their dispute as minor and says he believes the relationship remains positive.
Musk Yet to Respond
Despite Trump’s optimism, Musk has not publicly confirmed that he intends to donate SpaceX shares to the program.
Whether such a contribution ultimately happens remains uncertain, but Trump’s remarks have already reignited discussion about the relationship between two of America’s most influential figures—and the growing role of major technology companies in public initiatives.
