Meta Launches Muse AI Agent with Dedicated Security Environment

Meta has launched Muse, a personal artificial intelligence agent designed to manage day-to-day tasks and execute long-term action plans. The service, which is currently available only to users aged 18 and over in the United States, aims to move beyond the capabilities of standard chatbots by performing autonomous actions on behalf of the user.
To address privacy and security concerns, Meta said the agent runs on a dedicated, secure virtual machine. This environment is designed to house both the AI agent and the user’s personal data within the same protected space.
Autonomous Task Execution
Unlike traditional conversational AI that primarily retrieves information or drafts text, Muse is designed to interact with external systems to complete workflows. According to Meta, the agent can open web browsers, fill out forms, and negotiate on a user’s behalf. Practical applications include booking travel, managing schedules, and coordinating resources for complex goals such as starting a new business.
Users can interact with the agent through a dedicated Muse application or via the WhatsApp messaging platform.
The Shift Toward AI Agents
The release represents a technological shift toward autonomous agents that can function without explicit, step-by-step instructions. By combining large language models with the ability to execute software tasks, these agents can theoretically manage entire processes—such as receiving a message from a contact and autonomously determining and sending an appropriate response.
The development aligns with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s stated vision for highly capable personal agents. Zuckerberg has previously outlined a goal for AI tools that work continuously to assist users with managing their health, finances, career, and home management.
