Selena Gomez is facing a lawsuit from investors who accuse the singer and actress of failing to deliver on promises made while building Wondermind, the mental health company she co-founded with her mother.

Selena Gomez is facing a legal battle over a mental health startup that was once positioned as an ambitious new platform for making conversations about mental health more accessible.

Five investors who backed Wondermind Global have sued Gomez and others involved with the company, alleging that promises made to investors were not fulfilled and that the business ultimately fell into severe financial difficulties.

The investors are seeking to recover about $1.2 million in investments, along with damages and legal costs, according to the lawsuit.

The allegations have placed fresh scrutiny on Wondermind, a company closely connected to selena Gomez’s public advocacy around mental health.

Investors Say Wondermind Failed to Deliver

Wondermind was launched about five years ago by Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson.

The company set out to create a digital platform focused on mental health content and make information about mental wellbeing easier to access.

According to the lawsuit, however, investors were allegedly given an overly optimistic picture of the company’s prospects.

The plaintiffs claim they were told that Wondermind had major advertising opportunities, celebrity partnerships, an upcoming app and other initiatives in development.

They also allege that Gomez was expected to play an active role in marketing the business.

The lawsuit claims those promises did not materialize as expected.

Lawsuit Alleges Company Was Already in Trouble

The investors further allege that Wondermind struggled with basic business operations, including paying employees and vendors on time.

According to the complaint, the company’s financial problems continued for years without investors being adequately informed about the extent of the difficulties.

The plaintiffs say they only became aware of the situation after an investigative report published by The Cut in September 2025 examined Wondermind’s finances and management.

The lawsuit alleges that by that point the company had effectively lost the momentum investors had been promised.

Gomez’s Role Is Now Under Scrutiny

Gomez remains listed as a co-founder of Wondermind, while her mother now serves as chief executive following Pierson’s departure.

The lawsuit specifically challenges Gomez’s alleged involvement with the company, claiming she signed an agreement requiring her to perform certain duties but failed to carry them out.

Those are allegations made by the investors, and they have not been established as facts in court.

The BBC reported that it contacted Wondermind and Gomez’s representatives for comment.

From Mental Health Mission to Legal Dispute

The dispute is particularly notable because Wondermind was built around a subject that Gomez has discussed publicly for years.

The singer has spoken openly about her own mental health experiences and used her enormous social media following to promote conversations around wellbeing.

Gomez is also the founder of beauty company Rare Beauty, which has become a major consumer brand closely associated with her personal identity.

That makes the Wondermind lawsuit more than a dispute over a failed startup. It also puts the spotlight on the risks celebrities face when their personal brands become closely tied to businesses backed by outside investors.

What Happens Next?

The lawsuit is still at the allegations stage, and Gomez’s legal response could determine how the case develops.

For the investors, the central question is whether they were given an accurate picture of Wondermind’s financial position and whether the company’s founders fulfilled their obligations.

For Gomez, the case could become a significant test of how celebrity-backed businesses are managed when ambitious promises collide with the realities of running a startup.

What began as a high-profile attempt to reshape the conversation around mental health has now become a multimillion-dollar legal dispute — and the next stage of the case could reveal just how far Wondermind’s business problems went.
