OpenAI to Merge ChatGPT Work Features and Unify Pro Usage Limits
Share
OpenAI is rolling out integrated “Work” capabilities directly into the standard ChatGPT interface and unifying usage allowances for its ChatGPT and Codex services for Pro subscribers.
The company is currently testing a combined experience for the “Chat” and “Work” tabs. This feature is being rolled out to a small group of users initially, allowing for a seamless transition between simple conversations and complex, task-oriented workflows.
Enhanced Task Execution
The integration aims to allow users to move from initial idea exploration to full execution within a single environment. OpenAI stated that users will be able to incorporate files and plugins to perform advanced tasks, such as building websites or creating presentations, while maintaining the ability to guide the AI’s actions directly on the web.
While this combined experience is being tested, Codex will continue to operate as a separate experience within the ChatGPT desktop application.
Unified Usage Allowances
A significant change for Pro subscribers involves the unification of usage limits. Both ChatGPT and Codex will now draw from a single, shared allowance. However, OpenAI noted that not all interactions will consume this limit.
The “Unlimited Instant” feature remains included in the subscription and will not count towards the shared usage allowance. More advanced models and computationally complex tasks will consume varying amounts of the allowance based on the complexity of the work performed.
Users can monitor their remaining usage and scheduled reset times via the Settings menu under the usage tracking section.
This update follows recent adjustments to OpenAI’s subscription tiers. As of 29 October, the company has already doubled the Work and Codex allowances for its Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscriptions.
